Partner Guide
HealthJourney Partner Guide
Welcome to HealthJourney! You have been invited to be a support and accountability partner to your family member or friend (“Program Participant”) in a 90-day online program designed to improve their health. This guide will help you provide effective support, encouragement and accountability.
Being an Effective Partner
Active listening is one of the best ways you can show support. As the Program Participant shares thoughts, ideas, struggles, etc., you can respond with the following:
- “Tell me more about that…”
- “That’s interesting, what do you think is the reason for that?”
- “And?”…“Then what?”…“What else?”
- When the Program Participant asks a question, you can answer: “I’m not sure, what do you think?”
Initial Questions for Partner to ask Participant
- What are some reasons you chose me for your partner?
- What are your preferences for how I can best encourage you?
- What is the best way to hold you accountable to your new habits and goals?
- Is there anything that you don’t feel comfortable with when holding you accountable to your new habits and goals?
- What is your ideal communication format and frequency during this program (texts, emails, phone calls, video calls, in person meetings, etc.)?
